Marriott International today announced the opening of Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa, marking the debut of the first Renaissance hotel in Fujian province. With a brand philosophy that inspires guests to “Discover This Way”, Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa is all set to help guests uncover something a little unexpected on their visit to Xiamen, which is also known as “The Island of Egrets” for its large populations of the beautiful snow-white birds. Xiamen is one of China’s major special economic zones and is renowned for its beautiful natural scenery. The new hotel is located approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Gaoqi International Airport and Xiamen North Train Station.
“We are very excited about the opening of Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa, which spearheads the rapid expansion of the Marriott International brand footprint in this beautiful region of China,” said Mike Fulkerson, Vice President, Brand & Marketing APAC, Marriott International. “As a melting-pot of Chinese and western influences, Xiamen is an attractive destination for business and leisure travel. Our new hotel makes it possible for guests to explore this destination like locals, with engaging brand programming and Navigators who handpick experiences that cannot be found in a guidebook.”
The design narrative of the hotel pays tribute to the origins of Xiamen as a traditional Chinese fishing village. The theatrical design allows the structure to be modern yet familiar, and to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Soaring ceilings in the lobby evoke Xiamen’s seascapes, while a modernist art installation of steel and shimmering glass reimagines flying kites, the centuries-old pastime of the region’s fishermen.
Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa features 200 well-appointed guestrooms, including seven luxurious villas. Every guest room and villa have a spacious private balcony overlooking the sea. Within walking distance is a pristine white sand beach, dotted with umbrellas and comfortable lounge chairs. Guests who enjoy swimming will be spoiled for choice with five themed outdoor swimming pools and an indoor heated pool. For children and families, Kids’ Paradise is a dedicated kid-friendly play area that promises hours of fun and activities.
Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa offers four innovative dining options to delight food lovers. Food Studio serves up a menu of fresh seafood and western dishes in a casual setting, complete with great ocean views. Wanli is the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant that authentically showcases the region’s traditional Cantonese and Minnan culinary styles. Signature dishes include Stewed Abalone with Black Garlic, Pan-fried Lotus Root Cake and Boiled Sea Crab & Duck. Water Front is an extraordinary open-air dining venue facing the ocean, ideal for stylish and sophisticated beachfront barbecues. R Bar is the vibrant social heart of the hotel, welcoming guests with unique Chinese tea ceremonies, draft beers and crafted cocktails such as Amoy Sea Breeze and Shrub A Day. Here, the “Evenings at Renaissance” program lets guests unwind and mingle as they enjoy live music and complimentary appetizers.
The hotel also offers meeting and event facilities, including two 810 and 360-square-meter pillarless ballrooms and seven multifunctional rooms with advanced audiovisual equipment. Outdoors, the white sand beach and lawn make breath-taking venues for romantic weddings. The hotel’s dedicated banquet team is always on hand to ensure the success of every event.
“Xiamen is a fast-developing destination, and we are uniquely positioned to welcome adventurous visitors to this city,” said Steven Chen, General Manager, Renaissance Xiamen Resort & Spa. “The design of our hotel welcomes guests with authentic local flavor, making it an ideal starting point from which to explore this fascinating destination. Our local Navigators, a reinterpretation of the traditional hotel concierge, help guests discover the most exciting experiences Xiamen has to offer.”
Many attractions await the spontaneous explorer within easy distance of the hotel. Xiamen Seafood Market, the hub of the city’s daily life, is a must-see for every visitor. A little further away, Xiamen Railway Cultural Park is a living museum that showcases the city’s history. The pedestrian-only Gulangyu island, a picturesque UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, is a scenic eight-minute ferry ride from downtown Xiamen.
