Chengdu Launched a Panda-Themed Railway Station to Boost Tourism

Chengdu celebrates its status as the “Panda City” by launching a panda-themed railway station, according to China Railway Chengdu Group, the regional railway operator.

Just opened this week, the railway station is designed to celebrate Chengdu’s status as the “Panda City”, by blending local culture with public infrastructure.  Designed with playful panda motifs, the station’s exterior and interior feature panda faces and bamboo-inspired decor, creating a delightful atmosphere for travellers.

Located in Anjing township in Chengdu,  the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China, this station goes beyond being just a transit point; it serves as a cultural experience for visitors. Highlights include panda-themed signage, vibrant murals, and a striking 3D panda sculpture at the plaza—an ideal spot for memorable photos, according to China Daily.

Shi Yang, head of Anjing Station, was reported to have commented that the goal is to enhance the travel experience while promoting the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Additionally, this station will be a vital stop for the popular “Panda-themed train”, which has operated for over a year and a half, completing 95 trips and serving 27,000 passengers.

The opening of this panda-themed station is expected to boost tourism and exemplify how railway infrastructure can enrich cultural encounters for visitors exploring Chengdu.
