The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has praised the 2018 Asian Games health and medical team for its rapid response in treating injured athletes and maintaining the food quality.

OCA Medical and Doping Control chairman, Dr. Jegathesan Manikavasagam, said the health and medical team monitored food hygiene and quality not only for athletes, but also for the press corps.

“It is evident from the way the team works to maintain the quality of food served for both domestic and foreign athletes and journalists covering the event,” he said in Jakarta, Friday.

He added that the medical team’s rapid response unit met all the standards set by the OCA.

“It could be seen in the paragliding event. The medical team used a helicopter to quickly take an injured athlete to hospital,” he said.

Aside from ensuring food quality and providing rapid response, the health team is also responsible for maintaining a clean water supply and conducting disease outbreak control and prevention.

“For all of that, the OCA would like to extend its appreciation of the Asian Games health team,” Jegathesan said.

Meanwhile, 2018 Asian Games health and medical team chairman Dr. Bambang Wibowo, said his team had readied 195 medical units for the quadrennial sporting event.

The health and medical team is supported by 1,805 medical professionals, 100 sanitarians, 587 food hygiene supervisors, 230 ambulances, three air ambulances, 10 water ambulances, 20 motorcycle ambulances, and five golf cart ambulances.
