Boracay will open a beach dedicated to Muslim women on 10 September 2024.
The private beach is located within one of Boracay’s mixed-use leisure and resort developments — Boracay Newcoast, a 150-hectare township development of Megaworld Corp — where one of the hotels has a halal kitchen certification.
Philippines tourism undersecretary for Muslim Affairs, Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, said that the availability of a dedicated beach will provide more options for Muslim tourists and enhance their overall experience in Boracay.
The opening of the private beach is in line with president Bongbong Marcos’ commitment to promoting halal and Islamic traditions in the Philippines. The National Tourism Development Plan for 2023-2028 has as a key objective a more Muslim-friendly Philippines.
The Department of Tourism also plans to improve the training of frontline tourism workers through halal modules developed by the Department of Science and Technology.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said training frontline staff in welcoming Muslim visitors, would “transform the Philippines into one of the most competitive halal and Muslim-friendly destinations in the world”.
