The Michelin Guide is extending its ratings to hotels, introducing a new system to assist travellers in selecting accommodations.
This move aims to simplify the overwhelming task of choosing a hotel amidst a vast array of online options.
Unlike the star ratings awarded to top restaurants, hotels featured in the Michelin Guide will receive keys. These keys will be granted based on various criteria, encompassing architectural appeal, uniqueness, quality of service, comfort, and pricing. As with restaurant evaluations, these assessments will be carried out by anonymous inspectors to ensure impartiality.
The Michelin Guide has partnered with Tablet Hotels to create a selection of 5,300 hotels across 120 countries, with awards to be presented in early 2024.
The guide generates revenue through reservations on its website and will charge hotels a 10% to 15% commission for reservations made through its platform.
