Mana Earthly Paradise (Mana), a next generation hotel run by the award-winning NGO Earth Company, announced that it
has officially been certified as a B CorporationTM or B CorpTM.
This prestigious social and environmental designation makes Mana not only the first B CorpTM hotel in Indonesia, but also the first in Southeast Asia and the second across the entire Asian continent.
Mana joins more than 5,600 other B CorpTM companies in over 150 industries and over 85 countries, who are leading a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.
Having just celebrated its third anniversary, Mana recognizes this certification as a major milestone in its journey.
Since its establishment in 2019, Mana has intended to reimagine and redefine sustainability in business, especially in the tourism industry – which constitutes 80% of the Balinese economy. While tourism has brought a lot of economic benefits to
the island, it has also produced serious social and environmental consequences that threaten Bali’s long-term wellbeing.
Mana is committed to be part of the solution by incorporating regeneration into every aspect possible. This includes: constructing the resort using natural building techniques with ethically-sourced materials; harnessing solar energy to power Mana’s lighting; harvesting rainwater that is filtered to serve potable water to the entire property; and only using fresh, local, organic ingredients – many of which are from Mana’s own permaculture gardens – at the resort’s restaurant.
“We believe that tourism can be a force for good to the world and have always imagined Mana as a place that demonstrates how the hospitality industry of the future ought to be. Embarking on this journey to become a B CorpTM is part of our
goal to amplify our impact to stakeholders, and cement our commitments to becoming an impact-driven company in the hospitality industry of Bali and Indonesia.” – said Tomo Hamakawa, co-founder of Mana Earthly Paradise.
While becoming a Certified B CorporationTM represents a huge step forward, it serves as a starting point rather than an end-goal. It will be a constant reminder to continue maintaining high standards of social and environmental impact, and continuously improve upon what has been achieved thus far.
As a player in the hospitality industry of Bali and Indonesia, Mana hopes its B CorpTM certification will encourage and influence more businesses, especially hotels in Bali, to more proactively integrate sustainability practices into their business models.
