Indonesia has the opportunity to be the muslim fashion center of the world. Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) is the largest annual economic and Sharia finance event in Indonesia. ISEF, which this year will be held for the seventh time, is an effort to develop the national economy and sharia finance to help national economic recovery. ISEF aims to encourage the development of the halal value chain ecosystem, including Muslim fashion as one of the priority sectors.

The ISEF Fashion Sector is organized by Bank Indonesia, the Indonesian Fashion Chamber and the Indonesia Halal Lifestyle Center (IHLC) with the aim of helping MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) players in the fashion sector to go global.

As a part of ISEF 2020 activities, ISEF Fashion Sector supports 10 fashion designers who collaborated with 4 accessory brands to showcase their modest wear collections at the Virtual Fashion Show Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia on 23 October 2020, which is broadcast virtually through more than 100 digital platforms, including YouTube ISEF Indonesia.

The 10 fashion designers and 4 accessory brands that have the opportunity to showcase their collections in this international fashion week are members of the Indonesian Sharia Creative Industry (IKRA Indonesia). IKRA Indonesia, a platform initiated by Bank Indonesia and Vivi Zubedi Indonesia Foundation, brings together sharia entrepreneurs, including the halal fashion sector, to build a sustainable ecosystem for the holistic development of halal products in Indonesia.

“Indonesia is targeted to be the center of the global halal industry, through Indonesian Muslim fashion, which is a potential commodity for the international market. The participation of IKRA Indonesia members in this fashion week is an opportunity to compete in the international market and penetrate the global market. Making Indonesia as the world’s Muslim fashion center is a big challenge for us. However, synergy with all stakeholders, InsyaAllah, together we can develop Indonesia’s Islamic economy and finance, particularly the Muslim fashion sector,” said M. Anwar Bashori, Head of the Department of Islamic Economics & Finance, Bank Indonesia.

Fashion and accessory designers of IKRA Indonesia members who will present the Spring Summer 2021 collection at the Virtual Fashion Show Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia are Vivi Zubedi, Wignyo x Rorokenes, Agung Bali Collection x Bahalap, Adhy Alie, Roemah Kebaya Vielga, Thiffa Qaisty, IR & IR, Ina Priyono, Defika Hanum x PALA Nusantara and Shoes by UJ Yuna, and Anggia x Beadstown.

The concept of sustainable fashion is implemented by the use of raw materials and local human resources to drive the local economy while drawing inspiration from global trends and concern for the environment and society. The collection also applies Trend Forecasting 2021/2022 with the theme ‘The New Beginning’ about changing lifestyles to face a new era.

“This virtual international fashion week is a valuable opportunity during a pandemic. MSME fashion and accessory designers in Indonesia can showcase and promote their work on a global scale, particularly the European market. This is a chance for MSMEs in Indonesia to permeate the export market. We hope Indonesian modest fashion can truly be accepted in the European market,” said Ali Charisma, National Chairman of the Indonesian Fashion Chamber.

Participating in this international fashion week provides the opportunity for Indonesian modest fashion entrepreneur to go global and compete in the global market.
