Flying Out of Thailand Now Costs More

Thailand has increased its passenger service charge (PSC) for international departures by 53%, with the new rate of 1,120 baht (US$36) taking effect from 20 June 2026.

The increase, up from the previous 730 baht charge, applies to all international passengers departing from Airports of Thailand’s six airports: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai and Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai.

The passenger service charge is already included in the price of air tickets, meaning travellers do not need to pay it separately at the airport.

Domestic passenger service charge, meanwhile, remains at 130 baht per passenger.

Airport of Thailand (AOT) stated that the higher PSC is “reasonable” and “not influential” in passengers’ travel decisions. It is “neither a tax nor revenue generated for profit-seeking purposes”, said AOT.

The 53% hike is estimated to bring in some 10 billion baht annually, which AOT said would be used for improving airport-related activities and infrastructure.

Planned improvements range from passenger terminal upgrades, more comfortable wait areas, reduced waiting times, enhanced security measures and expanded F&B and shopping options.
