Travelers Now Need an ETA to Enter Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will require all international visitors arriving to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to their journey.

The measure, effective 15 October 2025, is intended to simplify entry procedures while strengthening border security.

Officials are pointing out that that completing the ETA application in advance will help to reduce waiting times at entry points and ensure smoother arrivals for foreign nationals.

Tourists and business travellers are urged to submit their applications through the official portal, www.eta.gov.lk before boarding flights to Sri Lanka.

Elsewhere, India’s Bureau of Immigration rolled out a Digital Arrival Card for foreign nationals entering the country, effective 1 October.

Under the new system, international visitors will have the option to complete their Disembarkation Card either physically upon arrival or digitally up to 72 hours before reaching India. The digital submission can be made via:

  • The official Indian Visa website
  • The ‘Indian Visa Su-Swagatam’ mobile app
  • Scanning a QR code provided by airlines or travel partners

Physical forms will remain available for up to six months or until the online system is fully stabilised.
