Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards with The Slate Phuket, the whimsical art-inspired beachfront resort, recognized as the 20th in the Best Resorts category for Thailand.

More than 715,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted an incredible number of responses rating their travel experiences across the globe.

“The results of this year’s survey, conducted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, are a testament to the lasting power of a meaningful travel experience,” said Jesse Ashlock, U.S. Editor of Condé Nast Traveler.

“The winners represent the best of the best for our audience and offer plenty of trip-planning inspiration for all the adventures we can’t wait to have next,” he added.

The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised by the Condé Nast Traveler 2020 Readers’ Choice Award. These are arguably the most important honours in the industry; they reflect the genuine views of the discerning, well-heeled globetrotters who regularly read Condé Nast Traveler. These esteemed readers are our regular guests, so the fact that they chose to vote for us in such large numbers is a wonderful tribute to the lasting impact and impression of our guest encounters. I would like to thank everyone who voted for The Slate,” said the resort’s managing director and co-founder, Krystal Prakaikaew Na-Ranong.

This amazing achievement reflects the impact of the property’s striking design, which is themed on Phuket’s tin mining heritage, its stunning setting on Phuket’s sunset coast, just steps from the golden sands of Nai Yang Beach, its spacious and stylish accommodation, and its exceptional facilities, including a world-class wellness centre and Michelin recommended restaurant.

Expertly conceived and crafted by Bill Bensley, the maverick hotel architect, The Slate weaves together the rich history of Phuket with the future of hospitality. Guests can make unique discoveries at the resort’s dream-like gardens and guest services, such as Coqoon Spa, the serene wellness centre which is woven into the tropical landscape. Culinary occasions come alive at The Slate, as chefs showcase highly authentic yet innovative dishes in seven spectacular settings. These include Black Ginger, the Thai restaurant, which is set in a traditional Ayutthaya-style mansion that appears to float above a tranquil lagoon and is only accessible via a wooden raft, and Rivet, the signature Japanese restaurant where chefs fuse classical recipes with avant-garde styles.

In its review of The Slate, Condé Nast Traveler hails the resort as ‘unexpectedly funky, with witty industrial touches’. It adds; “The lush landscaping with encircling lagoons creates a sense of exclusivity that makes it almost unnecessary to cross the busy street to the broad public beach. The 277 rooms sport pillowtop beds and fabrics from Bangkok’s trendsetting Beyond Living brand. Dinner at the restaurant, Black Ginger, is an elegant affair, with local favorites like poh piah sod, a spring roll overflowing with sweet sausage and roast pork. The Stockroom, an in-house antiques shop, sells well-chosen items ranging from Chiang Mai silk wraps to hand-carved wood furnishings from Kerala.”
